Platform 3, Design Products
with Tony Dunne
Invited by Ron Arad to teach within the Platform system in Product Design, I teamed up with Anthony Dunne. We encouraged students to radically rethink the role of products, challenging conventions of function, meaning and cultural context.
To pull out one of many memorable moments: Tom Hulbert simplified a video player using just a kitchen sink, a sieve and an empty bottle. Later illustrated by Mr Bingo for Cent and Icon magazines.

It blurred the boundaries between services, start-ups and electronic products, encouraging entrepreneurial thinking. We used Kickstarter as one project framework; the application criteria helped students to think beyond college projects. The musical product ODD Ball emerged from this platform.
