Moshi Monsters
Interactive Toys
While on holiday I created soft toys with pockets for iPhones, turning the phone into the character’s face and voice. Gestures such as tilting, shaking, and hugging, triggered stories, music, and dialogue. Luckybite patented the idea and licensed it to Vivid for the Moshi Monsters range; we developed the iPhone apps and the toys were launched with TV advertising and sold through Argos and other retailers.
Part of my ongoing exploration of using iPhones as components within dedicated products.

Intempo Radio
I designed a DAB radio with Colin Burns at IDEO, combining two ideas I had explored at college. Users could generate custom fabric speaker grilles from their own photos, inspired by a postcard radio I had made in 1984. The handle folded back to form a stand, echoing an earlier Roberts Radio concept from my student work. After leaving IDEO we developed this for Intempo. It was sold through Argos and John Lewis and has also been shown in exhibitions.

EasyPhone
Vodaphone
I designed a simplified interface/interaction for Vodafone’s ‘Easy Phone’, aimed at people who struggled with the layered menus and awkward navigation of pre-smartphone handsets.
